MITCHELL CAMBRON ROGERS LAW FIRM ACHIEVED RECORD AWARD FOR INTERNET LIBEL
The proliferation of the Internet has transformed our lives. We no longer have to travel to the mall to go shopping. We can purchase almost anything on-line. Where once telephones were our only link to our friends, today we can communicate through e-mail, blogs, Facebook, Twitter or any number of social networks.
As with all good things there are perils. With these great advancements in communication come greater opportunities for unsavory characters to do harm. There is great anononimity on the Internet. Persons who are inclined to defame another feel emboldened while doing so on a computer. They are of the mistaken belief that they can’t be identified and therefore can’t be caught.
Anything you say, any site you visit, on the Internet leaves a forensic footprint.
On March 2, 2011, Attorney Brenda Rogers on behalf of her client received a record award for Internet libel in Georgia. Mrs. Rogers’ client, a public figure, was awarded $533,333.33 against a defendant who believed his forensic footprint was untraceable.
Bear in mind that there are statutes of limitation on all legal issues. If you have concerns don’t wait to seek legal counsel.
